SAC PD Application Process
Introduction
Due to the generosity of the Office of the Chancellor, SAC is pleased to announce the Staff Advisory Council Professional Development Program (PD). The SAC Professional Development Program is an educational program at UIC that will provide funding to Civil Service Employees to build their knowledge and skills related to their current job responsibilities. All participants will work with their supervisors and home units to select learning opportunities that can enhance their job performance.
Before applying, please discuss the program with your supervisor and business manager.
Please obtain approval from your supervisor and department business manager before submitting the application:

This first step is shown in the red boxes above (far left) of the application process. Does this professional development enhance your skills and work performance? Will this program or certification better serve your department’s services, customers and UIC community? Will your department business manager be able to pay for the SAC PD up to $500 and wait 3-6 months before reimbursement is completed by JV transfer?
Complete SAC PD Online Application before deadline.
Once approved by your Supervisor and Business Manager, you are now able to complete the SAC PD application via Qualtrics. Please indicate both supervisor and business manager names and email in the application. You will need to type in your department account number FOAP in the application. Please indicate your justification for this professional development funding by answering who you are, why you would like the funding, how it will benefit you and the department and include the information regarding the activity. Please provide a pdf file of the activity which shows cost, description, dates and location or membership subscription dates.
You will receive an email regarding your application after review.
The Staff Advisory Council Executive Committee will review your application. You will receive an email with further questions regarding your application or an award letter. The award letter will have instructions on the next steps: Business manager will pay for your SAC PD activity indicated in your application up to $500.00

SAC PD is the professional development funding request for civil service employees
- Award is up to $500 per civil service employee
- Can be used for a professional development activity such as a conference, professional membership, certification
- Fund is paid by the department business manager after award letter is received
- Department is reimbursed by the Chancellor’s office through a JV transfer
- The activity or membership is for a future event or subscription
- You must be a civil service employee with at least 50% appointment
- This is a one time award.

- Activity must benefit your department, UIC community and your professional development
- Activity must be approved by your supervisor. If time is needed off to attend, approval must be obtained prior to the application.
- Tuition reimbursement for a degree classes is not applicable for funding due to tax implications. Departments will not be able to submit expense reports for tuition payments nor will the JV transfer paid to the department for this activity work. However, books or class supplies may be eligible.
This award is for a future activity.
- Funds are not given directly to the employee but a JV transfer to the department.
- Previous activity reimbursement is not eligible.
- If the activity has not yet completed, please discuss with your supervisor. If the department can reimburse you in Emburse Enterprise and wait for the JV transfer, this may be possible depending on departmental requirements or procedures.
This is a one time award.
- Once you receive the award, you will not be able to reapply.
- The UIC system currently employs over 7,000 civil service employees. The Staff Advisory Council would like to help as many employees as possible.
- The award is up to $500. If you applied for $100 and received $100, you will not be able to reapply for the remaining balance ($400) the second time.
Please discuss with your business manager before applying.
- Please share the professional development activity cost and description with your business manager. Once you receive the award letter, the business manager will then be able to pay your activity with their p-card or PO# or voucher.
- The banner document, which shows the amount has been paid from the department’s FOAP is the document needed to complete the JV request. The money is then sent back to the department using the FOAP that was used to expense the activity.

- It is important to receive prior supervisor and business manager approval before applying for the SAC PD. The amount is up to $500.00 if the activity is more, the difference will need to be paid by the employee or the employee’s department.
- This prior approval is important because the JV funds that go back to the department is only up to $500.00
