Nominating Petition and Statement of Candidacy Forms

Petitions and Statement of Candidacy forms must be returned via email to balmes@uic.edu no later than 5:00pm on Friday, October 17, 2025

To Employees Served by the State Universities Civil Service System:

An election will be held to select one representative from the University of Illinois Chicago to the State Universities Civil Service Advisory Committee to the Merit Board of the State Universities Civil Service System. The election will be held on Tuesday, November 11, 2025 to fill a term of office beginning January 1, 2026 through December 31, 2029.

Beginning today, electronic versions of the Nominating Petition and Statement of Candidacy forms are available on the Staff Advisory Council and UIC Human Resources websites. On the UIC HR website, you can find the petition and statement under Miscellaneous Forms.

To qualify as a candidate, a Nominating Petition must include at least 25 legible signatures from active Civil Service employees. Completed Petitions and Statement of Candidacy forms must be submitted via email to balmes@uic.edu by 5:00pm on Friday, October 17, 2025. Only candidates who submit both forms by the deadline will appear on the ballot; write-in candidates will not be accepted. If the number of valid petitions matches the number of open positions, an election will not be held.

Eligibility for nomination and election requires Civil Service employees to hold certified status at UIC or the Colleges of Medicine in Peoria or Rockford, with a minimum of three consecutive years of Civil Service employment at UIC or any other Illinois institution governed by the State Universities Civil Service System.

Electronic voting will be available from 12:00am to 11:59pm on November 11, 2025. For employees who prefer or require a paper ballot, voting will be available in the UIC HR Welcome Center, 715 S. Wood Street, Room 109 from 8:00am until 5:00pm on November 11th. Additional details regarding the voting process will be shared with Civil Service employees ahead of the election.

Petition for Candidacy UIC to Membership on the State Universities Civil Service Advisory Committee to the Merit Board State Universities Civil Service System. A Civil Service employee to be eligible for nomination and election to membership on this Committee must meet the following qualifications:(1) be a certified status civil service employee in the System; and(2) have at least three current consecutive years of employment at an institution currently served by the System.
