Alvie Griffin Bailey was an administrative assistant to Drs. Eileen Zungolo and Edythe Ellison-Hough, Associate Deans for Academic Affairs in the College of Nursing. Alvie G. Bailey serviced the University of Illinois for twenty-one years before she succumbed to breast cancer at the age of forty-five on September 22, 1988. She was awarded the Janice Watkins Award posthumously.
In 2002, the UIC College of Nursing created an award in her honor for nursing students: Alvie Griffin Bailey Award.
