Wilhelmenia Kendall

'Women Can' has praise for Kendall

Wilhelmenia (Billie) Kendall, the personnel officer in the Physical Plant personnel services office, has been honored as a vital participant in the Midwest Women's Center "Women Can" program.

Last November, the Chicago Council on Urban Affairs sponsored a dinner at the Chicago Hilton and Towers honoring the Midwest Women's Center "Women Can" program with a 1989 Neighborhood Award.

The "Women Can" program is primarily a building maintenance training program that prepares women for an opportunity to enter union apprenticeships or other high paid blue collar jobs of their choice.

Through Kendall's efforts UIC was recognized as a "Graduate Employer."

By working with the Midwest Women's Center, the Physical Plant department has been able to employ recent graduates from the "Women Can" program.

Recognizing participants included the Mayor's Office of Employment and Training, the United States Department of Labor and State of Illinois Governor's Office.
